Introducing Katie Hays
Katie Hays started her legal career at the law firm of Kane, Donley
& Johnson, P.C. in Colorado Springs, where she worked for four
years, practicing primarily in the areas of family law, civil litigation
and probate and estate planning. Katie was active in the El Paso
County Bar Association, and was even elected to the Board of Trustees
as Secretary. Governor Bill Owens presented Katie with the Outstanding
Young Lawyer Award of the El Paso County Bar Association in 2001.
Upon relocating to Glenwood Springs, Colorado Katie’s energy
and warm personality landed her quickly in the position of officer
of the 9th Judicial District Bar Association. She is President
of the Association for the 2005 year, and is very active in organizing Continuing
Legal Education for bar members and in the provision of pro bono or no-cost legal
services for indigent residents of the district.
Katie is also committed to assisting the youth of the community
with her legal skills. She has volunteered as a Teen Court judge, and she
is currently an assistant coach for the Rifle High School Mock Trial Team.
Katie’s involvement extends outside the Western Slope of
Colorado. She was recently elected as a member of the Executive
Council of the Colorado Bar Association Family Law Section. She
is honored to serve with this prestigious group of some of the top
family law attorneys in the state.
Since starting the practice of law in 1998, Katie has been committed
to assisting her clients through the difficult divorce process.
Family law is one of the most difficult areas of law to practice,
because it affects people’s lives so deeply. Katie is a member
of the Colorado Interdisciplinary Committee, a group of legal and
mental health professionals that provides training and information
about children and divorce. She is also active in the local Special Advocate group.
Katie is constantly educating herself
with the latest research on children and divorce, and utilizes that
information to increase the chances that her clients will attain
the results they desire.
